Much like America itself, Commander :) is a melting pot of cultural touchstones and musical influences: Twin Peaks. U2. Donnie Darko. From Death Grips to Tom Waits, blink 182 to My Bloody Valentine. And just as America finds itself on the precipice on numerous fronts, Starrberry Perzervz, takes the listener on a journey both harrowing and meditative.

At times confrontational yet inviting, this incredible album is just what we all need to kick off yet another year of uncertainty. It’s a peering into the abyss with a kickass soundtrack. It’s the auditory symbol of contradiction, as twinkling keyboards careen into hip-hop-influenced drum beats, guitars drive into the night of shoegazey layers, while vocals float above it all, condemning what we’ve become…and maybe holding out the slightest sliver of hope for something better.

I love this guy’s music, really heavy and the guitar sound is like crashing waves. Drums are kinda open sounding, there’s an openness to it that is not common in metal. Songs are all excellent. Jono Schneider
