Benjamin Hinz is a prolific composer and performer from Eau Claire,
Wisconsin with roughly twenty years of electronic experimentation, live psych-rock explosions, and moody drone pieces under his belt. You may have encountered his alter-ego “Your Old Pal Aen” as the spokesperson and “idea man” at Dwarfcraft Devices.
His newest release may not shock those familiar with his work, but the dark, meditative epic he calls “DEEP” is a feast for any ears it hits. DEEP is the soundtrack to a dream that borders on a nightmare. It may fall under the general “rock” heading, but the piece takes elements of metal, drone, psych, and post rock, and adds a sprinkle of brain-tickling electronics for a murky under sea adventure.
It’s also the first song Hinz wrote solo in the studio with the intention of performing live with a backing band. The project unfolded after an intense dream in which Hinz encountered a physical representation of fear. Around that time a new guitar tuning began to reveal chords and melodies to Hinz, and the earliest forms of DEEP were spilled out into the computer’s recording interface. The release will be celebrated with the first public performance of DEEP at The Plus in Eau Claire, Wisconsin on April 20th.

Inside you'll find a near-psychedelic mix of punk and experimental noise: Raw, heavy, soaked in reverb... really effective and really difficult to describe. You need to check this one out for yourself. Katimavik86
